Get your Speedo ready! It’s going to be a wet and wild summer at these grown-up gay pool parties.
June 05, 2013
On Top at Le Bain
It’s only June and the temps are already inching upwards of 90 degrees, so in this sweltering city you’ve got two options to cool down this summer: brave the teen-filled petri dish of some community pool or dive into one of the season’s big boy pool parties. With all the weeklies, one-offs and monthlies here in the city and on Fire Island finally in full swing, you’ll need to seriously beef up your swimwear collection!

The Room Mate Grace Hotel, 125 W 45th St (btwn Sixth/Seventh Aves),
“It’s a men’s party,” says Drenched promoter Joe Fiore. “A lot of pool parties, people just stand around and watch. At drenched it’s a high-participation party and everyone’s in a bathing suit and having fun.” Expect a friendly, furry crowd splashing around in this intimate pool with a swim-up bar. “Oh, you know what guys get up to when they’re all wet.” June 7 from 10pm–2am; $10.

On Top

Le Bain, 444 W 13th St (btwn Washington St/10th Ave),
Take a moonlight dip with Susanne Bartsch and her fellow creatures of the night at this decadent hot-tub party at The Standard Hotel’s penthouse venue. Hosts like Mr. Mickey, Michael Musto and Darian Darling attract an A-list crowd while DJs Sammy Jo and Jeremy W keep the dripping-wet bodies moving. We’re not sure how you’ll keep your look together in the steamy darkness, but it’s totally worth a try. Tuesdays at 11pm; free.

Love Shack 3.0

The Pool Deck, 37 Fire Island Blvd (@ Harbor Pk), The Pines,
“Love Shack’s goal is to create a private beach club atmosphere,” says DJ Randy Bettis, “the kind of place where everybody knows everybody else.”  And with the proceeds from the event benefiting Trinity Place, your fun in the sun will do double duty giving homeless LGBT youth a place to call their own. June 9 from 3pm–7pm; $30 in advance/ $35 general admission/$100–$350 VIP.

Aqua Party

260 Bay Walk, The Pines,
Later this summer, Tony D’Angelo and Gabriel Manzon’s annual benefit for The Water Project returns to The Pines. This bayside pool party features DJs, open bar and more tanned and toned skin than you can possibly handle. Plus, all proceeds go directly to help The Water Project provide clean, safe drinking water in Africa. August 17 from 2pm–7pm; $30.

The Hardcore Pool Show

The Ice Palace, 1 Bayview Wk (@ Dock Wk), Cherry Grove,
Logan Hardcore throws herself into the deep end at her weekly pool show—both figuratively and literally. “You can just expect a full-blown mess at 3pm on a Saturday,” the dripping diva says. “It’s like watching the most beautiful train wreck.” With co-host Holly Dae, DJ Chuck and surprise guests all summer long, you can definitely expect a spectacle. And make sure you tip these bitches—replacing those wigs every time they get sucked into the pool’s filter gets expensive! Saturdays from 3pm–5pm; free.
