Comic Con Cover Contest: The Finalists

Long, long ago (uh, August) in a galaxy far, far away (where is the Internet located, anyway?) we sent out a bat signal to all would-be comic-book artists to send us their most fabulous illustrations for the chance to be featured on the cover of Next Magazine, the universe’s most awesome publication. First, you submitted some really creative, unique visions. Then our readers gave their two cents by choosing their favorites on Facebook, narrowing down the field to five finalists appearing in this very feature. Finally, a thoroughly curated panel of judges—which included Geeks Out board members Joey Stern, Rogan Josh and Patrick Yacco; and Chance Whitmire, editor of FanBoysOfTheUniverse.com—deliberated over the work of the finalists to choose one grand-prize winner: this issue’s cover artist David Cushnie-Bell.
There are a lot of extremely talented artists in our fair city and we are proud to highlight some of the best. So enjoy their muscle-bound and masked awesomeness on the following pages. And who knows? You might see one of these heroes in an actual comic book one day!
Meet grand prize winner David Cushnie-Bell at New York Comic Con, October 11–14 (Javits Center, 655 W 34th St)! Cushnie-Bell will be appearing at the Geeks Out booth on Friday, October 12 from 4pm-7pm. And be sure to check out all the exciting events and gay geekery at the Geeks Out booth, #1974.
