Demanda Dahling is Just What The Doctor Ordered, at The Debut of Kenny Kenny and Susanne Bartsch’s 42nd at XL

"It’s quite a place. I love the vibe and it has a lot of potential," said Kayvon Zand, one of the hosts of Kenny Kenny and Susanne Bartsch’s new Thursday night party 42nd of the party's venue: John Blair, Beto Sutter and FornabaioVoss' brand new XL Nightclub. Since Kenny and Bartsch decided put their wildly successful On Top at Le Bain on hold for winter—though their three-year old Vandam at Greenhouse continues to anchor Sundays—their loyal fashion-meets-club-kid fans were certainly scratching for something new, despite the cold. (It is February after all. Who really wants to head out in stockings and Louboutons in sub-zero temperatures?) Needless to say, XL Nightclub's city-wide buzz fit the mold since the nearly virgin venue has the capability to hold Bartsch’s crowd of crazy party-goers either on its massive dance floor or not-so-subtle lounge bar.
Judging by the trends seen on opening night of 42nd, one would think they were captured in some sort of fashion battle as they cruised around the large space. We caught up with the Village Voice’s Michael Musto to get his thoughts on the scene. “It’s kind of like G Lounge meets Splash,” he stated as he motioned behind the bar to the upside down pyramid mirror that catches all four sides of the goings-on.
The sights of the evening included host Amanda Lepore looking delicious as always with her less-is-more approach to clothing and The Zand Collective keeping the crowd from getting too parched in between bouts on the main stage. And by night's end, it was clear that a new dose of a Kenny and Bartsch—and their wild entourage—was definitely a cure for the winter blues. “My eye doctor has a painting of you hanging in his office,” we even overheard Kenny Kenny telling Demanda Dahling towards the end of a wild night out. "He’s a very well-known one at that!"
