QxBxRx's Finale at Glasslands a Big Love Fest—No Really, Everyone Was Making Out

Queers, Beers and Rears, the party known as QxBxRx, went out with a bang this weekend, ending five years of homopunk shenanigans on a high note. After a two-month hiatus, DJs Sir Loins, A. Martini and GoKarff—collectively known as “The QBR Boys”—took over Williamsburg’s Glasslands Gallery to celebrate their monthly party’s fifth anniversary—and finale.
The show featured QxBxRx regulars like Ruffian Arms and Making Friendz, as well as QxBxRx debuts from People at Parties and GoKarff’s new band Baby My Baby—featuring Scott Sosebee of Space Cookie, King of Rocksprings and ginger party Fire in the Hole. Perennial QxBxRx go-go boys Max Steele and Travis Sisk worked the stage between sets while—full disclosure—yours truly shook it for one final time on the bar. We spotted performer Dan Fishback, Birdsong micropress’ Tommy Pico, former Dead Betties frontman Joshua Ackley, Steele’s B0DY H1GH partner Daniel Sander and promoter Sabrina Haley.
Inevitably, there was a fair amount of reminiscing. “Ah, the bathrooms at Cake Shop. I talked about that in Next Magazine!” Making Friendz’s frontwoman Tami Hart mused on stage, referring to the scandalous goings-on at the party’s old venue. And Steele, who’s been dancing with me at QxBxRx since the party’s move to Cake Shop, seemed sweetly misty-eyed when remarking on this being our final gig together.
But the party was hardly a downer. The crowd danced to DJs LGBT and Luiza Sa between bands and into the wee hours as A. Martini snapped photos. And everywhere you looked, people were making out. At one point, we looked up and there was a fully-clothed Earl Dax dancing on the bar with the Steele and Sisk.
After Making Friendz’s closing set, QxBxRx founder Stephen “Sir Loins” Crowe called just about everyone who’d ever been involved with the party up on stage for a big final thanks. We left feeling like this final party totally did justice to QxBxRx’s five years of debauchery.
