The Village Voice invites you to bring yer eatin’ pants to the upcoming third annual Choice Eats event on March 22, 2010 at the 69th Armory on Lexington Avenue. Over 50 restaurants are scheduled to be represented and newcomers to the table this year include DuMont, Patacon Pisao, El Almacen, Fatty Crab, Egg, Max, Luke’s Lobster, Spicy Bampa a.k.a. Bamboo Pavilion, Rajbhog Sweets & Snacks, Ambiance Restaurant, Mercadito Restaurants, Pinche Taqueria, Smorgas Chef, The Vanderbilt, Baohaus, Mooncake Foods and Hummus Place.
Expect such savories as braised pork belly with pickled vegetables from Kuma Inn; cucumber-scented chowder with mussels, clams and shrimp in an herb broth delivered by DuMont; tacos with shrimp, roasted garlic, chipotle mojo and avocado courtesy of Mercadito; specialty Greek skirt steaks, sausages and spicy feta spreads via Ovelia Psistaria Bar; and an offering of Purple Yam’s sugar-cured pork sliders with grated green mango. Among the many other participants, Porchetta, Toloache, Txikito, The Sheep Station, and Mama’s Food Shop will also be thrown into the pot.
To participate, restaurants must have been featured in Robert Sietsema’s Counter Culture or Sarah DiGregorio’s Fork in the Road columns for the Village Voice. The lucky diners may ask questions of the chefs who will be preparing and serving their dishes.
