A Whole New Reality

Glenn Douglad Packard is getting a dose of fame from new reality show Brook Knows Best.

By Brian Moylan

Glenn Douglash Packard knows a thing or two about famous people, after all, the gay choreographer worked for everyone from Michael Jackson and Liza Minnelli to Britney Spears and Nelly Furtado, but what he wasn’t ready for was his own 15 minutes in the spot light. Packard is along for the reality ride with his friend and roomate Brooke Hogan, whose new VH1 reality show Brook Knows Best (an offshoot of her father Hulk Hogan’s show Hogan Knows Best) started last Sunday and airs every week this summer. Packard—who was raised on a farm in Michigan and spent a decade in New York before setting in Miami—is loving life in front of the camera and here are his five favorite things about being on a reality show.

1. The party never stops. The show is us hanging out in the house and going through the roommate stuff…and living an adventure and having a great time. I got to experience my first spring break. I never got to go when I was in school because I was always working so much. That was a blast.

2. All the boys pay attention to you. I’m getting a lot of messages on MySpace from gay guys like, “You look hot,” or “Oh my god, I can’t wait to meet you.” But I’d rather meet someone the old fashioned way. I’ve been with my boyfriend for 3 years. He’s a Latin dancer and he’s my number one priority.

3. You get to live your dreams. I watched American Gladiators when I was a kid, I think it’s because I was gay at the time. One day Hulk [Hogan] called up Brooke and asked if we wanted to come down to the set. I even got to play around with some of the stuff. I got to put on one of the outfits, but of course I wore the short shorts. I kept calling myself the Glenniator.

4. There’s career advancement. As a choreographer, I feel like I’ve done it all. I always loved the camera. If I’m in front of the camera or behind it, I’ve always loved it, but I thought my time in front of the camera was done, but I’m grabbing onto it and enjoying the moment. Now, I’m already working on directing a new reality show that I got from being part of this.

5. You can make a difference. One of the reasons I agreed to be on the show was to inspire others. Because of the wrestling connection with the show, we get a lot of people from small towns watching. Being that small town boy who is able to come out and be on TV, it’s letting kids know there are other people like them out there—if their parents don’t change the channel. N

New episodes of Brooke Knows Best air Sundays at 10pm on VH1. Visit VH1.com for more info.
