If Chad Woodward had his way, he would have spent more time indoors as a child. Mike Faraci is something of a renaissance man. His abilities and interests include sewing, kickboxing, cooking and rocking out with his band, the Mike Faraci Band, at the Indian Road Café in Inwood.
But there is one thing Faraci is passionate about above all else: wrestling. His grandfather was a boxer, so he feels that there’s something in his bloodline that ties him to the sport. He hits the mat locally with the gay-friendly freestyle wrestling club Metro Wrestling where, as a gay athlete participating in an exceptionally physical sport, he doesn’t think he is breaking stereotypes as much as he is embracing them (pun intended). “It’s more about redefining what the stereotypes are,” Faraci says. “Some people are gay first and everything else later. I tell people that gay is only one of my talents.” continue reading »
