The Journey is Over for Trip Nightclub

We thought we'd get through 2010 without another gay bar closing, but we just recieved word that Trip, the nightclub formerly known as Elevate (and Access for a hot minute) ceased operations last night, with its owners unable to keep up with the costs of operation. A statement from owner Rickey Mercado and promoter Charles Winters spells out the details:
 
“After a great attempt by an amazing group of people, we are sad to say that the doors have closed at Trip—both figuratively and literally.  We would like to thank our incredible staff and dedicated crew of outstanding nightlife promoters.  You haven’t heard the last of us yet, we are working to keep the parties going in a new location under better management.  Our commitment to provide an inexpensive, exciting, nightlife experience is still as strong today as it has ever been.  We will soon announce our next venture, and we sure you all will be as excited as we are.”
 
Winters says details on a new space will be coming soon, and it may be a space nightcrawlers are already familiar with. We'll keep you posted!
