Third Annual Fire Island Home Issue

When it comes to making a house a home, it’s often about practicality and necessity. But what makes a vacation house a home? While both homes are a place to spend time with family and friends, the second is all about imagination and possibility. A vacation home is not only a place to shelter your head but also cultivate your entertaining. It’s a place to keep cool during the summer but also one that looks cool, too. (When you only use it in the summer, who needs walls?) For the following three Fire Island homeowners, the journey to create each of their second homes was filled with possibility, each abandoning reason to follow their dreams and finally create a wholely unique place—be it playground or retreat—that’s already creating exciting new memories they’ll long cherish.
