Last night we joined Village Voice columnist Michael Musto at the release party for his new book Fork on the Left, Knife in the Back at Midtown’s The Copacabana. Shutter clicks and flashes overtook the front room with a media frenzy only Musto and his notorious guest list of reality stars, drag queens, Broadway legends, talk show hosts, burlesque dancers and other over-the-top night life characters can stir.
“It’s great that Musto is still coming out with books when no one reads anymore.”>>> continue reading »

It's Fashion Week and the Hudson Hotel’s new basement club, Good Units, played host to afterparty for Keith Haring by Patricia Field/Paradise Garage Collection last night. The event doubled as the debut of Love Thursdays, a new monthly party from Energizer bunnies Susanne Bartsch and Kenny Kenny. With performances Dangerous Muse and Narcissister, the packed house teemed with glitz, glitter and, of course, many tributes to both Haring and the late Alexander McQueen.

Last night’s final installment of Linda Simpson's Bingo-ski at Ukrainian East Restaurant brought out an array of downtown artists and nightlife superstars, including Dirty Martini, Sultana, Sylvia London and Angela DiCarlo. The night included spokesmodel and Sugarland regular Lauren Howe (sans her counterpart, bingo “boy-ski” Matt Camp), as well as a fashion show by Machine Dazzle. Working the door—and the room, Violet Temper didn't miss her chance to heckle Linda, calling her out for her "14th Street wig!” Nothing like a little sass to go with your bingo and perogis!
Your chance to play with Ms. Simpson's balls isn't over, though. Monday Night Bingo still runs regularly at the Bowery Poetry Club. And this Saturday sees the return of Le Bingo at Le Poisson Rouge, where she and Murray Hill call the numbers. —Christopher Dilley

While at Penny Arcade's Bad Reputation book launch event, we caught up with recent Karl Lagerfeld muse Dirty Martini about her involvement with Vandam at Greenhouse.
"Every week I'm just amazed by the people who get all dressed up. It inspires me. It's like I get paid to stand there for five hours and I have people tell me they love me. Each week I say to myself 'How did I get this job?'" —Christopher Dilley
Last night’s DavidBartonGym Toy Drive held at the gym's Astor Place location packed in the gays for David Barton & Susanne Bartsch annual charity event. The evning was garnished with fabulous performances from the likes of Narcissister and Dirty Martini who spun her Christmas balls the best she could. Spinning from the gigantic disco ball that was once housed at Happy Valley, DJ Johnny Dynell kept the glitterati dancing in between performances. continue reading »
Vandam’s one-year anniversary truly took the cake Sunday night with a crowd raging to DJ Johnny Dynell’s beats in the upstairs and a pulsating downtown crew grooving to soul, disco and house beats in the downstairs. Spotted in the crowd were Ladyfag, host Dirty Martini, Dina Marie, Charles Winters, Ronnie B., One-Half Nelson, Demanda Darling and table maven Myra. Winters commented on the Trevor Project fundraiser he and Steel Gym’s Ken Hunt hosted at Vlada the previous Friday saying “It was great to see the elite of nightlife taking the opportunity to give back. We raised a lot of money and it was an overall success.”
The energy generated by the appropriately named venue Greenhouse was a big theme when talking to the varying nightlife regulars. Host and proprietor Susanne Bartsch said, “The energy when you walk in here. The people, the makeup, the music. They make the party last. Happy Valley went for over a year and we’re well on our way.”
There were so many joints on stage at Low Life 3: Viper Mad, Johnny Dynell and Chi Chi Valenti’s drag-burlesque celebration of early 20th century jazz culture, you’d think it was an epi continue reading »
