Ring the Alarm!
Escuelita is facing a major fight with the New York State Liquor Authority. The SLA is trying to shut the largely black and Latino gay club down for several violations including, according to the Daily News, one count of selling liquor to a minor. But the 39th Street club isn’t going down without a fight, claiming the case against them is more about gentrification than liquor violations. Owner Sayvon Zand told The New York Post he feels the club is no longer welcome in the Port Authority/Times Square Area, “as minorities scare the mostly white tourists who patronize the newly built and expensive boutique hotels.”

Public Mourns Andrew Embiricos, Shames Out Magazine
By now you’ve probably heard about the death of Andrew Embiricos, the scion of the Muslim Aga Khan line and grandson of Hollywood legend Rita Hayworth. The 25-year-old’s death shocked many in New York’s gay and nightlife communities who knew him, but equally as shocking, some say, has been the media coverage of his death.

WATCH: Peppermint performs Metallica’s "Enter Sandman" with Fire Eaters at the Glammy Awards

(Peppermint at Splash)

One might not expect to see Metallica on the set list of a drag queens performance—between all the Cher, Lady Gaga and Rihanna that is—but that exactly what tick Peppermint pulled out of her sleeve last night at Cherry Jubilee’s annual nightlife awards show, The Glammys, at Splash. The drag diva kicked off the show—complete with a full band and backup dancers to belt out the heavy metal classic "Enter Sandman" and Wilsonmodels, our Glammy Award-winning photographer for the second year in a row, got the whole thing on video. Check out the rockin’ number for yourself after the jump.>>>

(The Glammy Awards awards backstage at Splash)

Judging from the energy at Splash last night, anyone harboring those sort of boringly jaded sentiments about The Glammy Awards checked them at the door. Everyone—every last promoter, go-go boy, bottle host and drag queen—seemed thrilled to be there amongst their nightlife peers.

GOSSIP ROUNDUP: Is Nick Adams a Cheapskate? // F Word Announces Staff Changes // Thunderwear Exits Sugarland

(Nick Adams' tip @ The Cock. Via David Serrano)

We Are The 85¢
Out Broadway star Nick Adams has been described as having one of the best bods on the Great White Way, but after his experience last night at The Cock, people are talking about a decidedly more meager attribute. No, oddly enough, this bit of gossip from the notorious East Village bar has nothing to do with any of Adams’s physical attributes. It was his stingy tipping habits that got gay tongues wagging today.

GOSSIP ROUNDUP: Barstch is "On Top," Tina Burner Xits Xes, Splash Remodels, and MORE!

| More

(On Top @ Le Bain)

KISS KISS, BAIN BAIN
This summer’s hottest new venue is turning out to be Le Bain, the Standard’s recently opened rooftop lounge. Some are calling it the “antidote” to the ultra exclusive Boom Boom Room, and with Susanne Bartsch and Kayvon Zand’s new weekly party, On Top, opening Tuesday, the nightlife freaks are flocking to the Meatpacking hotspot. As if that weren’t enough gayness for the hotel, rumors that Erich Conrad will be launching a Thursday night party at Le Bain this summer to replace Beige are looking more and more likely.

BURNER NOTICE

We got word that Tina Burner, resident queen at Chelsea's Xes is no longer affiliated with the bar. No definite reason was cited, but her gigs have already been filled. Ginger Snapt has taken the reins at Tranimal, the bar's Tuesday-night drag contest, and a rotating cast of hosts are helming Xes' Wednesday-night karaoke party. We wish both Tina and Xes the best in their new ventures.
