Scene and Heard Gay D. D. Back In The Gay Getting Personal

On The Box Confessional Behind The Scene Downtown

SCENE AND HEARD

ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS, WE PRINT.

After back-to-back weekends of debauchery during Gay Pride and the Fourth of July, it seemed a lot of boys opted to stay in—and order in—from their Manhunt accounts. We took a temporary break ourselves from the boy bars—finding a refreshing burst of estrogen at the eighth annual Miss Lez Pageant. Before the show we had a lovely chat with Australian songstress (and newly out lesbian) Sia, on hand to present the Miss Congeniality award. She later declared the show “the shit,” and we couldn’t help but agree: the contestants—ranging from acerbic cutie Miss Choice Cunts (Scout Durwood) to pint-sized spitfire Miss Snapshot (Trina Rose)—delivered massive amounts of entertainment, and no one floored us quite like Mrs. Victoria (Larissa Hsiao). In the end, though, the judges—who included Michael Musto, Linda Simpson and Top Chef’s Josie Smith-Malave—crowned Miss Wildcard (Sequinette) whose series of outrageous performances and ensembles proved she can lez it out with the best of them. Come to think of it, maybe we can, too. We’re not ashamed to admit that drag king boy band Switch ‘N’ Play got us more than a little hot and bothered!

Speaking of competitions and pageantry, we’re looking forward to this Sunday’s showdown at The Ritz’ weekly Sunday afternoon party, Rendezvous. In the much-discussed scandal we’ve been following, Shania Rendezvous will come out of “retirement” for Rendezvous vs. Rendezvous as she battles the venue over copyright infringement and attempts to win full-custody over the Rendezvous name. If you thought the Christie Brinkley custody battle was a spectacle, just wait until you see this! Shania gets up in the Rendezvous grill, and we don’t just mean the grill on the back patio where they’ll be barbequing all the hot dogs and pork chops! Of course, it’ll be fun to watch the drama while we’re munching!

Pork and patios were also present last Saturday afternoon at the Eagle, which saw lots of boys playing with balls while everyone got lei’d. Yes, the Hawaiian-themed luau Hugh Ten got a good crowd of hotties in various states of undress for some pulled pork and great tunes on the bar’s wonderful rooftop, both courtesy of DJ Rich King, who threw the party with Mike Peyton and Paul Short. After the boys got full on the sandwiches, watermelon and cheap margaritas they were ready to kick some balls—that is, the beach balls scattered around the roof that everyone was throwing about. We’re surprised one of them didn’t end up on 28th St rolling toward Scores.
To clear up any confusion, after more than year, Beto Sutter, S(he)quida and Dougie have officially closed their Friday night party, Shhh…, at HK Lounge. HK itself will continue a Friday party with different promoters and DJs.

We ran into Beto and Dougie as we hit up DJ Max Rodriguez’s debut on Saturdays at Splash. There’s a reason why Rodriguez is a veteran DJ at Splash as he definitely delivered for the packed house.

Pacha may have experienced a hiccup during Pride week when the City closed it down, but July 3 they reopened with a bang courtesy of DJ Erick Morillo. Morillo’s mother and aunt were there showing support VIP style along with Fernando, Lisa Bonelli and Tyson Beckford, to name a few. Sean Combs, a.k.a. Diddy himself, stopped by for a surprise appearance, talking and cheering the crowd before Duane Harden started singing the classic Armand Van Helden hit that features him, “You Don’t Know Me.”

Now that everyone is rested up, let’s hope next week is better than ever! N
