The monthly queer rock jam QxBxRx (Queers, Beers and Rears) celebrated its fourth anniversary by moving back to Brooklyn, where the show started in 2007, and shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, the horde of pretty boys, rock 'n' roll dykes, bears and other queer rockers who happily made the  journey to Public Assembly was so big, the beleaguered bartender finally gave up on taking individual orders and just started making batches of 15 drinks at a time, passing them out to anyone in reach.

SCENE + HEARD: Our Correspondent Gets (Almost) Naked for Naked Heroes at QxBxRx

(Hey Willpower)

The first thing you should know about Saturday's edition of the monthly QxBxRx party is that, as the lights went down after his band's set, Caves drummer Luis Illades (also of Pansy Division) unzipped his fly and peed on a guitar. From what I heard afterward, this wasn’t so much an act of punk-rock theatrics as a genuine musical experiment: Illades couldn’t seem to get over the sound it made.

Actually, maybe the first thing you need to know about the party was that—full disclosure time—I was pulling double duty as a go-go boy and Nexus correspondent.

SCENE + HEARD: Rockers Rejoice: QxBxRx Brings Queer Punk To Cake Shop

| More

We weaved through the LES Rivington Street traffic Saturday night to get to the Cake Shop for queer rock party QxBxRx where rocker go-go boys gyrated to the Ruffian Arms. Host A Martini described the band as a “fun, awesome, theatrical, Brooklyn, art punk band.” They had the whole audience hopping by the middle of their first song (see video below). “Also we have Hands and Knees who are down from Boston and the Kezners,” said Martini.

The successful party had a great mixed crowd of not only gay party-goers but people from the upstairs bar who trickled down to hear the bands play. “The response has been great, we have a really great turnout. We’re always pretty happy and book any band that is even interested in the party at all regardless of being queer or not queer—as long as they like to bring a fun party!” said Martini.

Also on hand to spin retro punk tracks and rock classics were hosts DJs Go Kraff and Sir Loins. “We’ve already had a lot of bands that we love over the last couple of years like Von Iva” said Martini. “There are only so many queer punk and queer rock bands in the whole country or world for that matter.”

Next up for QxBxRx will be next month's two-year anniversary blowout. Visit http://www.myspace.com/qxbxrx for info. —Christopher Dilley
