Last night, we went out to relive one of our favorite childhood memories—being hand-in-hand with our crush while skating round the roller rink to Journey's "Open Arms"—at Josh Wood and Jared Needle's new Wednesday night party at the Lot, Asphalt.

"I was too mortified to get up so I just sat there embarrassed, crying hysterically until the entire rink stopped skating and started clapping and chanting my name.">>> continue reading »

SCENE + HEARD: Bull Moose Sounds its Mating Call For the First Time and the Gays Come Calling

| More

(Bull Moose)

When God closes a door he opens a window—or a gay bar, as the case may be. Hot on the heels of the news that View Bar in Chelsea has shuttered, new queer watering hole Bull Moose held its opening-night party last night in Hell's Kitchen.
Up until just this week, the space had been a straight bar by the same name so, as we walked towards the bar we wondered if any straggling heteros would be inside scratching their heads at the boy-loving crowd. We needn't have fretted, though—the giant rainbow flags outside practically screamed "We're Here! We're Queer! We Serve Beer!"

SCENE + HEARD: Mikie Likesit Sets Sail with Sunday Social Cruise Club at the Maritime Hotel

| More

(Rainblo, Mikie Likesit & Roze Black @ La Bottega)

Sunday Social Cruise Club premiered yesterday at La Bottega café outside the chic Maritime Hotel, with creator Mikie Likesit spinning the jams and hosts Jackie Birdy and One Half Nelson strolling through the warmly lit venue. “I figured right now would be the time to start a summer party that has an outdoor venue,” Mikie said as DJ Nita hopped behind the booth to give him a break. “We’re just feeling things out right now. I have a bunch of great hosts lined upSophia Lamar, the Spank boys, Paul Alexander. I don’t have a specific aim, it’s just a Sunday social aimed primarily at the post-brunch crowd.” he explained.

While Michael “Formika” Jones, Roze Black and Rainblo mixed and mingled, Mikie explained where the party's name came from. “To be honest, with the ‘cruise club’ part of the name I was hoping to draw the gays,” he revealed with a wink. “I was also thinking of a yacht club-like environment, and it’s at the Maritime Hotel, so I put all of those elements into the name.” We can’t wait for the weather to warm up so we can catch another ride on this pleasure cruise! – Christopher Dilley

SCENE + HEARD: Roze On Why You Can't Kill mr.Black

| More

(Roze Black & One Half Nelson @ Amnesia)

At Friday's F Word one might have thought they stepped back in time—and into mr.Black—as DJ Nita spun a Tubway style party, Black To The Future, inside Mickael Formika Jones and Mark Nelson's new night. Originally  a staple of mr.Black's Saturday night, “Black To The Future was a baby of ours,” said door gal and promoter Roze Black when we bumped into her at Sunday's Tighht at Amnesia. “It was probably one of the most successful parties that [mr.Black] did. There was a high demand for it so we didn’t see a reason why we couldn’t do it even though mr.Black was currently on hiatus,” she said at the new west side spot.

“We got together and said that it wasn’t going to be Tubway, but instead a subsidiary of Tubway and then subsequently took it on tour. We have done parties in Washington D.C and we’re doing something soon in Boston,” said Roze of bringing the party under the mr.Black name on tour.

“The response on Friday night was amazing. The décor was delicious and the DJ booth was set up like a real arcade machine with a joystick and all. On the ceiling we painted Space Invaders in neon for the black-light and it all looked so major. We also had a performance by En Subtitles which consists of Clifton Brown, One Half Nelson and Erikatour Aviance,” said Roze excitedly. “We have to start doing it monthly because we had an amazing turnout and a great response. It was our busiest night so far and I only heard good things back about it!” —Christopher Dilley
