At Friday's F Word one might have thought they stepped back in time—and into mr.Black—as DJ Nita spun a Tubway style party, Black To The Future, inside Mickael Formika Jones and Mark Nelson's new night. Originally a staple of mr.Black's Saturday night, “Black To The Future was a baby of ours,” said door gal and promoter Roze Black when we bumped into her at Sunday's Tighht at Amnesia. “It was probably one of the most successful parties that [mr.Black] did. There was a high demand for it so we didn’t see a reason why we couldn’t do it even though mr.Black was currently on hiatus,” she said at the new west side spot.
“We got together and said that it wasn’t going to be Tubway, but instead a subsidiary of Tubway and then subsequently took it on tour. We have done parties in Washington D.C and we’re doing something soon in Boston,” said Roze of bringing the party under the mr.Black name on tour.
“The response on Friday night was amazing. The décor was delicious and the DJ booth was set up like a real arcade machine with a joystick and all. On the ceiling we painted Space Invaders in neon for the black-light and it all looked so major. We also had a performance by En Subtitles which consists of Clifton Brown, One Half Nelson and Erikatour Aviance,” said Roze excitedly. “We have to start doing it monthly because we had an amazing turnout and a great response. It was our busiest night so far and I only heard good things back about it!” —Christopher Dilley

CLUB CONTROL: Gays want to dance again; at least you’d think that when talking with Ricardo Torres Ortiz, a.k.a. DJ Ricardo, about his new party, Tight, held at the newly opened Chelsea clubland hot spot Amnesia (where Sol use to be). We chatted with Ricardo, who helped start Kurfew events at Tunnel back in 1997 and more recently mixed and produced Out Anthems 1–4, about his exciting new party and why he thinks it’s worth trekking out in the cold for.
