 CLOSING

  • Mike Dreyden’s once monthly Booty Call at Paddles has come to an end with the simple explanation that, “it’s not working out” but stating that they had a “good run.”

DEAD IN THE WATER

  • It seems Cupcake at Red Velvet, which had a preview night featuring Charles Winters birthday, is now over before it even officially opened.
  • The few that haven’t already jumped ship on Tight at Amnesia (including Chris Ryan, Dina Marie and King Ralphy) will most likely be forced out as the party is rumored to have been put out of its misery after last week’s Red Party featuring superstar DJ Junior Vasquez.

MOVING

  • As we had previously reported, The Blonde Leading The Blonde had left its home at Vlada and is now moving to the Ritz’s Tuesday night. No word on if it will be a replacement of Malebox which takes place at that time.

DANCING QUEENS

  • Producers of the international megahit  Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical are holding an open call for experienced drag queens to fill the dancing shoes in their Broadway production. Friday February 19th at 11am at Pearl Studios (500 Eighth Ave) is the time and place, you just have to bring the face!

BRAND-SPANKING NEW

  • East Village haunt dTox is no more. In its place will rise a renovated space called Woody’s. The new bar promises “great DJs, strong drinks, over 20 draft and bottled beers” as well as a host of different Happy Hour opportunities (complete with food!).

SCENE + HEARD: Charles Winters Plays Ref As We Run Into Odyssey Staff

(Keoki, Charles Winters & Mike Averaert @ Red Velvet)

“Alright, I want a good clean fight. Now get your claws out!” exclaimed Charles Winters as we (along with  Next Magazine editor Dan Avery) were introduced to publisher Mike Everaert and editor-in-chief Keoki Ty Tavares of Odyssey the new gay mag in town. Luckily, no blood of our self-proclaimed "red-headed stepchild" was shed on the yet-to-be-opened Red Velvet’s couches, where Winters hosted his birthday bash last night.

The cozy Rivington Street bar—so long and sleek one guest said reminded them of the inside of a limo—will play host to Winters' new Wednesday-night party, Cupcake, which will also feature Micah Jesse, Jason Preston and King Ralphy.

Heading west, we passed Su Casa, which had a line around the block. Evidently the police were manning the scond-story club's velvet rope at one point, due to overcrowding upstairs and along the sidewalk. In the old days, the gays would've just invaded the Qdoba on the ground floor and made their own party. Things ain't what they used to be! –Christopher Dilley continue reading »
