The Famous Names of Laramie
Following the 1998 hate-crime murder of Matthew Shepard near Laramie, Wyoming, playwright Moisés Kaufman traveled to Laramie with members of the Tectonic Theater Project to conduct interviews with the town’s inhabitants which they then turned into one of the most frequently staged plays in America, The Laramie Project. The moving show premiered in February 2000, and later Kaufman produced a film of the same name. Tonight, Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project bring the work, as well as its 2008 epilogue, The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later, to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for a historic for two week run.
