(Kenneth Walsh)
As fans of Kenneth Walsh’s popular blog, Kenneth in the (212), are already aware, Walsh can be pretty fearless when it comes to making the private public. From his opinionated take on celebrities to his controversial decision to publish nude photos of MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts, Walsh has few qualms about covering topics that others may shy away from.
For his new memoir out March 5, Wasn’t Tomorrow Wonderful?, Walsh is applying that philosophy to his own life by including many revealing personal anecdotes—from his childhood to the present day. The New York blogger dishes on everything from an early obsession with a serial killer to his experience living with an ‘80s porn star in the dishy new book.
“I really aimed to let it all hang out, including my bonus testicle,” says Walsh. “I like making people laugh and cry… [It’s] meant to be funny and not taken too seriously. Except the parts where I’m dead serious.”

Choose one in each grouping:

“Tomorrow” Song: “Tomorrow” from Annie, “Tomorrow Is A Long Time” by Bob Dylan, “Tomorrow” by John Legend, “Wait Until Tomorrow” by Jimi Hendrix
I’d like to go off the board and pick “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” by The Shirelles. What it lacks in proper punctuation it more than makes up for in beauty.

Selfie Photo App: Instagram, Retromagic, Camera, Photoshop Touch
Instagram. Although I’m so old I thought it was just for making photos look fun. I didn’t realize people were actually seeing each photo I took, including some I didn’t mean for public consumption.

Short Answer:

How do you feel that telling your personal experiences may help others?
Because I read memoirs almost exclusively these days, I know from firsthand experience that hearing that others have gone through things you have is very comforting. If I had known about “The Best Little Boy in the World” when I was growing up, I might not have thought my varicocele (engorged veins in the scrotum) was cancer brought on by shameful homosexuality. I also might have gone to a better college!

What do you think people will be surprised by when reading the book?
That my boyfriend and I still don’t live together after 12 years. We both have tiny rent-stabilized apartments on opposite sides of Eighth Avenue that neither is willing to give up, but aren’t big enough for two people to in live comfortably. I think of us as the Mia and Woody of Chelsea, minus the wealth, fame and naked Polaroids of adopted children.

Has any of the reaction to the memoir surprised you?
I’m a little surprised how many people with misophonia have already discovered the book. Or perhaps they, like me until recently, didn’t know there was a term for this extreme hatred of certain sounds. A guy wrote to me to tell me he almost murdered a colleague who sat near him who would scrap and scrap and scrap “every last molecule” of yogurt out of it plastic cup. “It went on for an hour!” he wrote. I know when I found out I wasn’t alone with this condition it made me feel a lot better.

What’s your go-to drink?
I tend to drink vodka and whatever the most fun mixer available is.

What’s your favorite neighborhood in New York?
Despite turning into a Chase Bank and nail salon performance art piece, my heart will always belong to Chelsea.

What’s one of your craziest celebrities run-ins?
Having grown up worshiping Debbie Harry, it was pretty crazy to walk out of my apartment and see her 10 paces away coming toward me. And by crazy I mean the best thing that has ever happened to me!

What’s a trend you wish would die?
Use of the term “baby bump.”

What’s one of your favorite quotes?
You can’t top “No good deed goes unpunished” because it’s so true.

What’s in your fridge?
I eat all of my meals out, so you’ll only find grape-flavored generic Crystal Light (I know!)—and maybe some I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter spray on the door.

What’s the most played song on your iPod?
It says it’s a tie between Liz Phair’s “May Queen” and the Bee Gees’ “You Win Again” but don’t worry, I’m as confused as you are.
