The name’s Smith. Sam Smith.

The Grammy-winning British crooner’s Spectre theme, “Writing’s on the Wall,” is out today—and it’s already No. 1 on iTunes.

This makes Smith the first out artist to record a theme for a James Bond film. “This is one of the highlights of my career,” he said in a previous statement. “I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

“I tried to put myself in the shoes of Bond,” Smith tells NPR about the track, which he wrote with Jimmy Napes. “My music is a diary and it’s a recap of my life, and I wanted to bring that kind of honesty. In the lyrics—“How do I live, how do I breathe? / When you’re not here I’m suffocating”—I wanted a touch of vulnerability from Bond, where you see into his heart a little bit.”

“Today is such a special day for me,” he tweeted earlier this morning. “I have been dreaming of this moment for a long long time.”
