Sports Quickies: June 2012

Double Ballin’: Congratulations to the New York City Gay Basketball League’s MVPs: Metrell Hurst (Fenwick Keats Division) and Marc Pelka (Boxers NYC Division). Rookie of the Year is Jermaine Moore. Mr. Softie: The Big Apple Softball League had 14 teams represented in the Philadelphia Liberty Bell Classic (LibertyBellClassic.org) over Memorial Day Weekend and placed in three divisions. The Wings took first place in “B,” followed by Eagle in second. Fusion took first place in the “D” Division. More at BigAppleSoftball.com.

Kicked in the Balls: Big Apple Dodgeball and Big Apple Kickball ended another successful season and props go to Splash (first Place in Dodgeball), Urban Cargo (Dodgeball Tournament winners) and The Violet Femmes (first place in Kickball and Kickball Tournament winners). Chelsea Challenged: The New York City Gay Hockey Association hosts their 12th Annual International LGBT Ice Hockey Tournament this weekend at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers. Over 250 hockey players and friends are expected to attend. Games are free to spectators. Look for the anticipated match-up between the Jets & the Sharks in the upper division.
