- Hike, Ross! Hike: Congratulations to Ross Hayduk. He became the first HIV-positive member of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s 2,000-Miler Club after summiting Mt. Katahdin on September 6. Hayduk’s hike has raised over $5,000 for various HIV/AIDS services in San Francisco. More at HikeRossHike.org.
- Mercury Rising: Congratulations to Front Runners New York masters teams for their performances at the Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run. The men’s masters team, Steven Vizena, Marty McElhiney and Allen Durgin, took ninth out of 27 teams with a cumulative time of 58:28. More at http://FRNY.orgFRNY.org.
- An Apple a Day: Big Apple Softball League’s Gotham Softball Classic welcomed 45 teams from across the United States to New York for the Labor Day Weekend tournement. In the B Division, the NY Estrellas took second place, followed by the Titans. In the D-Rec Division, the Gatorz hung on to first place, with the Jesters in third. - A Fine Fancy Ramble: The NY Ramblers hosted their Second Annual Friendly Cup on August 25 at Pier 40. Over 60 players from the Northeast (Boston, Philly, Albany and DC) came out to play the Ramblers in an all-day friendly tournament.
