(Pho 66)

One Five Hospitality owners Jo-Ann Makovitzky and Marco Moreira (Tocqueville Restaurant and 15 East) are now opening South American-inspired Botequim (132 Fourth Ave, OneFiveHospitality.com) in Union Square. Executive Chef Moreira brings culinary influences from his native São Paulo to create an air of festivity. An open kitchen dishes out whole fish and roasted suckling pig while cardboard lanterns dance over the communal tables. There’s also a semi-private area for more intimate gatherings, perhaps enlivened by a batch of caipirinhas.
Look to Greenpoint for Daniel Burns’ (of Momofuku fame) new beer bar, dubbed Tørst (615 Manhattan Ave, 718-389-6034, TorstNYC.com), which aptly translates to “thirst.” The restaurant is full-service and the food is American with a touch of Scandinavia served on the side. This is not your typical stop on a pub crawl, however: some of the brews are just making their debuts stateside.
Got soup? Pho 66 (673 Ninth Ave, 212-315-9797, Pho66.com) does. A new Vietnamese spot in Hell’s Kitchen has signature pho simmering in the pot. Noodles and various curries round out the whole bowl.
Rayuela (165 Allen St, 212-253-8840, RayuelaNYC.com) has someone new cooking in the kitchen. Executive chef Alex Ureña (formerly of Ureña) is now serving up the “Freestyle Latino” cuisine that also features flavors the Dominican Republic, Peru, Colombia and Cuba.
