Boston’s South End comes to Chelsea this spring when Ken Oringer and chef Jamie Bissonnette bring rib-tickling tapas to Toro (85 10th Ave), their soon-to-be-opened outpost in the old Nabisco factory.
Now that the Caufield in Gramercy has closed, you’ll have to go somewhere else to catch your rye.
Tequila Park (356 W 58th St, 212-554-6217, Tequila ParkNYC.com), an outdoor taqueria in the Hudson Hotel is now open, doling out “common” and “uncommon” tacos as well as fresh, fruity margaritas to the masses looking for a little fresh air.
In other taco news, ABC Cocina (38 E 19th St, 212-677-2233) has recently arrived, helmed by none other than chef extraordinaire Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The intimate, Latin-laced venue features small plates such as short rib tacos and lobster paella.
180 (180 Hester St, 212-334-3811, 180NYC.com) debuted with an oak- and cherry-wood-burning pizza oven in a speakeasy tucked away in Little Italy. Pizzaiolo Salvatore Olivella tosses the dough to make authentic Neapolitan pies topped with a mix of temptations such as cow’s milk mozzarella, Parmigiano, porcini mushrooms, prosciutto and pears. The sauce is courtesy of San Marzano tomatoes.
Greenwich Project (47 W Eighth St, 212-253-9333, GreenwichProjectNYC.com) launched their cleansing weekend brunch with freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juices. But their pork belly hash, cornflake-crusted French toast and the liquored-up Garden Bloody Mary will lead you down a different garden path.
